The Jampa Peak Climb 2 Days / 1 Night is one of the most impressive short expeditions in Ausangate Peru, combining the colorful 7 Lakes of Ausangate with the thrill of reaching the summit of Jampa Peak (5,500 m / 18,045 ft). This unique adventure takes you deep into the sacred Apu Ausangate, the highest mountain in Cusco (6,384 m / 20,945 ft), a land of turquoise lakes, hanging glaciers, and traditional Andean villages.
On the first day, you will explore the spectacular 7 Lakes circuit, a natural wonder of glacial lagoons with vibrant colors surrounded by snowy peaks. After enjoying this magical landscape, the hike continues to Pachaspata Base Camp (4,800 m / 15,748 ft), where you will spend the night under the brilliant Andean sky, with a technical briefing for the climb.
Day two is the most exciting part: summit day. With professional guides and climbing gear, you will ascend across the glacier to conquer the summit of Jampa Peak. From the top, you will witness stunning 360° views of Ausangate Peru, Callangate, and the entire Vilcanota Mountain Range, along with countless turquoise alpine lakes. After descending, you will return to Pacchanta and relax in its natural hot springs before heading back to Cusco.
This Jampa Peak Climb and Ausangate 7 Lakes 2 Days adventure is perfect for those who want to experience both high-altitude climbing and the breathtaking landscapes of the Andes in just two days.
We begin our Jampa Peak expedition with an early hotel pick-up in Cusco at 4:30 am. Traveling in private transport, we head towards Pacchanta (4300 m / 14,108 ft), a traditional Andean village nestled in the Vilcanota Mountain Range. The journey takes about three hours and offers unforgettable landscapes of rural valleys, herds of alpacas and llamas, and the snow-capped giants of the Ausangate region.
In Pacchanta, a freshly prepared breakfast awaits us, giving us energy to start our trek. This community is renowned not only for its natural hot springs but also as one of the main gateways to Ausangate Peru (6380 m / 20,931 ft).
Our adventure begins with a scenic hike to explore the famous 7 Lakes of Ausangate—a series of turquoise, emerald, and deep-blue glacial lagoons, including Comercocha, Orqo Otorongo, China Otorongo, Azulcocha, Alqacocha, Pucacocha, and Qomercocha. Surrounded by glaciers, wildlife, and breathtaking Andean scenery, this circuit is one of the highlights of the Ausangate trekking experience.
From the lagoons, we continue ascending for two to three hours until reaching Pachaspata Base Camp (4800 m / 15,748 ft). This hike passes through vast alpine pastures, turquoise lakes, and landscapes shaped by glaciers. At camp, we settle in, enjoy a light lunch, and later dedicate time to acclimatization and technical training. Our guide reviews climbing gear—crampons, harnesses, helmets, ropes, and ice axes—and provides a short practice session on basic glacier skills, ensuring we are ready for the next day’s climb.
As night falls, we share a hot dinner and rest early beneath the starry Andean sky, right at the foot of Jampa Peak and surrounded by the mystical energy of Ausangate.
The big day begins around 2:00 am with a light breakfast before heading towards the glacier. The first part of the route takes us across rocky and moraine terrain until we reach the snow line, where we gear up with crampons, ropes, harness, helmet, and ice axe to start the ascent.
The climb up Jampa Peak (5500 m / 18,045 ft) takes four to five hours across glacier slopes averaging 30° to 40°, with mixed snow and ice. Progressing as a rope team, each step brings us closer to the summit as dawn illuminates the snow-capped peaks of the Vilcanota Range.
From the summit, we are rewarded with stunning panoramic views of Ausangate Peru (6380 m), along with other peaks such as Callangate, Mariposa, and Pucapunta. Far below, the 7 Lakes of Ausangate sparkle like jewels under the Andean sun—an awe-inspiring sight that makes this climb a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
After celebrating our achievement, we carefully descend back to Pachaspata Base Camp, arriving after two to three hours for a well-earned lunch. In the afternoon, we hike back down to Pacchanta village, where you can relax and recover in the soothing hot springs of Pacchanta, a perfect finale to the expedition.
By evening, we return to Cusco by private transport, carrying the unforgettable memory of conquering Jampa Peak in the heart of the Peruvian Andes.

All information meetings are held in your hotel at 6:00 p.m., one night before the tour begins. If you cannot attend, you must coordinate another time at the (Peru Hike) offices. These meetings last approximately 30 to 45 minutes and there you will be given a small duffel bag, in which you’ll put all the belongings you intend to bring on the trek that won’t be in your day pack.
ou’ll receive a canvas case or duffel bag during your briefing. The porters will take them on the way and will deliver them to you when you get to each camp. They measure 66 cm / 2 ft. Long x 36 cm / 1 ft. Wide.
A maximum of 5 kg is allowed for each duffel bag that includes the weight of your sleeping bag, mat, clothes and other personal items.
The trek has to be paid for in full by at least 7.30 pm two days before departure. For example, if your tour departs on a Wednesday, then you must come to our office before 7.30 pm on Monday.
It would be much appreciated if you pay the trek balance in cash US dollars or local currency. You can withdraw some money from several ATMs along Avenida Sol (either in US dollars or local Peruvian Soles). You can pay by credit card or PAYPAL online, but you will have to pay an 6% service charge, charged by VISA and PAYPAL. We do not accept bank checks or payment of the balance by traveler’s checks.
Of course! During the travel, your main luggage can be stored at our office or at your hotel, both free of charge.
Any equipment that you are not going to need on the trek can be stored safely in your hotel. Nearly every hotel will provide this service. Don’t leave items of value with your bags, put them in the hotel safe and obtain an itemized receipt (In the unlikely case of theft many insurance companies require that you have a copy of the receipt itemizing all the items). Best put items such as credit cards inside a sealed, signed envelope for extra peace of mind.
Peru Hike Company can pick you up from your hotel, as long as it’s in the Historic Center of Cusco. The pickup time will be coordinated with your guide in the briefing. The pickup time may vary between 30 and 45 minutes due to traffic. Cusco is a very old city, therefore, it has many narrow cobbled streets. Some hotels and Airbnbs may be located on streets without access to cars or on long, steep slopes, making it difficult to transport luggage. We strongly recommend that you book accommodation with good access.
Group tours are made up of different types of people. Physical conditions and ages can vary. By agreeing to be part of a group tour, you also accept that some people may be faster or slower than you. Therefore, each person can go at their own pace on the route. It may be the case that a group wishes to modify the tour; however, it will be the guide who decides, after consulting with all the participants, if said modifications can be made.
Strikes and demonstrations are usually frequent in Peru and this may interrupt some of our tours. Roads can be blocked and train tracks can be taken over. However, we will try to keep your excursion as planned, even if it means leaving the night before the scheduled date. Under these circumstances, tours may also be cancelled. In case of changes or cancellations, all situations will be coordinated with you by our operations department. Your safety is our highest priority and our decisions will be made to protect it.
You’re responsible for your objects during the tour. Please pay attention to where you leave your things and remember to take everything once you leave our trucks, tents, or restaurants.
